The AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety course will provide you with the skills and knowledge that are required to become a qualified swimming instructor and be able to conduct swimming lessons in a safe, efficient and effective manner.

The AUSTSWIM course is a nationally recognised training program, Our training will enable you to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to teach swimming and water safety classes and obtain the AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety award.

Course Information
Pre-requisite: Nil
Minimum Age Requirements: 16 years to participate in the course. AUSTSWIM certificates will not be issued until the candidate turns 17, and industry generally employs swimming teachers at 18.
Course Duration: 24 hours
Certification: On successfully completion of the Instructor of Swimming course and the on-the-job assessment, participants will receive a: - RLSSA Swimming Teacher Rescue Award, - AUSTSWIM accreditation, and a - Statement of Attainment that includes the following units of competence from the National Community Recreation Industry Training Package. -Please Note:Rescuscitation Certification will need to be completed seperately before the AUSTSWIM certification will be awarded.Please see resuscitation courses to book into a course.
SRC AQU 008B - Apply the principles of movement in water to aquatic activities SRC AQU 009B - Instruct water familiarisation, buoyancy and mobility skills SRC AQU 010B - Instruct water safety and survival skills SRC AQU 011B - Instruct the strokes of swimming SRC CRO 007B - Operate in accordance with accepted instructional practices, styles and legal and ethical responsibilities
Course Fee: $295.00 (GST Free)
Fee Includes: Professional instruction, learning resources, RLSSA Swimming Teacher Rescue Award, and the AUSTSWIM - Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety accreditation.

Have a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability. You must be able to demonstrate a 200m aquatic sequence;
Complete an open book theory examination online.
Complete a practical on-the-job teaching assessment.
On-the-job Assessment: To complete the on-the-job assessment of the Instructor of Swimming course you must be able to access an aquatic facility and undertake practical teaching experience under the supervision of a qualified swimming instructor. You are also required to complete a number of workplace activities that are listed in the on-the-job assessment logbook. The logbook is then forwarded to Royal Life Saving where an industry assessor will assess the documentation. Completion of all assessment items is required to gain AUSTSWIM accreditation.

Monday - Friday 9.30am - 2.00pm
Weekend Course Times: Friday 6.00pm - 9.00pm Saturday 8.00am - 6.00pm Sunday 9.00am - 6.00pm
Merriwa Course: Fri 8am-3pm, Sat 1pm-5pm, Sun 9am-5pm
